Address a text to several people on an iPhone and Messages puts them all in one conversation: every recipient sees every number, and every reply goes to the lot. One-by-one sending opens a separate message for each contact instead — no shared thread, not even with iMessage or RCS.

Redesigned widgets

CSV import, rebuilt
Separator (comma, semicolon, tab), encoding and columns are detected automatically. Files exported from Excel on Windows, names in quotes, name/surname/phone in any order — it just works. Thousands of contacts import in the background with a progress bar, duplicates are recognised however they are written, and a row that cannot be read tells you which line it is and why.

iCloud sync that works
Your groups, lists and templates really do follow you across your iPhone, iPad and Mac now — it was silently failing to connect, and it isn't any more.
Worth knowing: if you already use Group SMS on more than one device, the first sync merges what is on each of them, so expect entries to arrive from your other device.
Schedule from a template
You could already schedule a message from a group or a list. Now you can start from a template too, with the text already in place — and if the template uses placeholders, each contact still gets their own personalised message.
Placeholders in your language
The {name}, {surname} and {phone} chips now follow your app's language instead of always showing the English ones. Templates written in any language keep working, on every device.

Everyone ends up in one thread — unless you stop it
Message several people from Messages and iOS puts them in a shared group conversation: all 60 recipients see each other's numbers, and every reply goes to everyone. Digging into Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Messages ▸ Group Messaging does not reliably fix it either. Contact groups you cannot actually text
iOS lets you build contact groups in Contacts and on iCloud.com — and then the Messages app cannot address one. Group SMS reads those groups directly, so the ones you already maintain finally become usable.
Blue and green in the same send

Frequently asked questions
Does Group SMS send messages over the internet?
No. Group SMS uses the native Messages app and your SMS plan: messages go out from your own number as regular SMS, with no intermediate servers and no account.
Are my contacts uploaded online?
Never. All your groups, lists, and contacts stay stored locally on your iPhone. We use no cloud, collect no data, and have no access to your information.
Can I send to multiple groups and lists at once?
Yes. You can select several groups and several distribution lists in a single send: the app totals the contacts and sends the same message to everyone.
Will everyone see each other's numbers?
Not if you send one by one. In that mode Group SMS opens a separate message for each contact, so no group conversation is created and nobody sees the other recipients — not even with iMessage or RCS, which always group a message addressed to several people. You can pick it right before a send or make it your default in Settings.
Does the app send the messages by itself?
No, and no iPhone app can: iOS reserves that tap for you. Group SMS opens each message already filled in with your text and the right recipient, and the next one opens by itself as soon as you have sent the previous one — so it is one tap per person and nothing more. Before your first one-by-one send the app tells you exactly how many confirmations it will take.
What if I stop halfway through a long list?

How does it avoid carrier blocks?
If you are not sending one by one, Group SMS groups recipients into small blocks rather than one huge send, which reduces the risk of the limits carriers apply to bulk traffic. For a really large audience, Campaigns spreads the whole thing over several days.
Can I import a contact list from a file?
Yes. Distribution lists import from any CSV, and the app works out the separator (comma, semicolon or tab), the encoding and which column is which on its own — including files exported from Excel on Windows and names wrapped in quotes. Thousands of contacts import in the background with a progress bar, numbers already in the list are skipped however they are written, and if a row cannot be read the app tells you which line it is and why. Can I see what I have sent?
Yes, with Pro. The statistics screen is built on your own send history: pick a period — 7 days, 30 days, 12 months or all time — and every figure follows it, including how it compares with the period before. You get a breakdown by type of send, your most contacted groups, a delivery rate for each campaign, a count of the contacts who did not receive the message, and a CSV export of the whole history.
Do my groups sync to my iPad and Mac?
Yes, with Pro: groups, lists and templates sync through your own private iCloud — we never see them. One thing to expect: if you already use Group SMS on more than one device, the first sync merges what is on each of them, so entries will arrive from your other device.
What are Campaigns?
Campaigns is a Pro feature for sending one message to a large audience over several days. You set a duration and a daily limit, and Group SMS guides you through sending in batches with a daily reminder — ideal for promotions and announcements where sending everything at once could trigger carrier limits.
Can I schedule a message for later?
Yes. Scheduled is a Pro feature that lets you set a message for a future date and time, one-off or recurring (daily, weekly on chosen days, or monthly). Since iOS doesn't allow background sending, the app sends you a reminder at the scheduled time and opens the message ready to send in a tap.
Is Group SMS free?
Yes. Group SMS 3 is free to download on the App Store and free to use for everyday group texting, one-by-one sending included. Campaigns, scheduled messages, statistics, iCloud sync and resuming an interrupted send are optional Pro features. Lifetime is a one-time payment that never renews.
